FAQs

Okay, we like what we see here – what’s next?
Give us a call! We’ll meet, you can see some complete albums, we’ll have a chat about your day, and you can decide if you’d like to book!

Our advice to couples concerning their choice of a wedding photographer usually involves answering these three questions:

Do you like the photographer's work?
Is the photographer offering what you are looking for?
Are you pleased with the photographer's style and personality? (That is, do you feel that your personality and the photographer's will blend well on your wedding day?)
If you can answer "yes" to all three of these questions, you are well on your way to making a decision. If the answer is "no" to one or more of these questions, you might want to shop around a bit more before making your final decision.

How do we book Andy Chitock Photography for our wedding?
We require a deposit and a signed contract to book our wedding services.

How many assistants do you use at weddings?
None – the style is relaxed and informal. Blending in and moving through the guests invisibly with an assistant and bags of equipment would be unbelievably awkward to manage, so we just don’t do it!

What is your typical coverage time?
How long is a piece of string?

Start and finish times are set by you. As a general guide, it’s common to begin with the brides final preparations at home, and if there’s time nip off to catch the groom in the pub. Then to the ceremony, through the wedding breakfast and on until the first dance. But it’s your day – I’ll photograph what you ask me to. If you have fireworks at midnight, then I’ll even stay for those.

What shooting style do you use for weddings?
I use a candid approach (often referred to as a photojournalistic or reportage photography) with a few of the more traditional posed formal photographs – between 6 and 10 is usual. At some point during the day, we will also slip away for a few quiet moments (once your guests are happy with a drink and won’t miss you for ten minutes) – time for you to catch your breath and to catch some romantic quiet images for your album.

Notes on Formal Photos:

We do always ask the bride and groom to make a specific list of all the formal shots they require prior to the wedding. This is not to say we’re not flexible on the day, but it allows for thought and consideration to keep them to a minimum. Such a list also helps to speed up the process of taking the formal photos, so that there is less time taken in making last-minute decisions on whom to include.

How many photos do you take during a typical wedding day?
It is rare for us to shoot less than 200 photos at a wedding, even a small wedding of relatively short duration.

How soon after the wedding can the bride and groom expect to see the pictures?
The bride and groom can expect their album to be delivered the morning after they return from honeymoon. We have a strict rule that the online album will only be made active AFTER the Bride and Groom have seen the pics – we think it’s only fair you get first look!

At the reception, are the bride and groom expected to make arrangements to feed the photographer along with the other guests?
We do not approach our wedding work with the expectation of being invited to dine. We feel that it is our business to work at the wedding. However, if you felt able to offer a bite to eat, we will always gratefully accept it (especially if we are in the middle of a particularly long stretch of work)!

But, as for expecting to be included in the wedding breakfast? Absolutely not. We realise that the budgets of most wedding couples must take into account the per-person expenses related to inviting guests to dine. In many cases, those expenses limit the number of guests that can be asked to join in the wedding meal. We would not want to think that a wedding guest or two might have been left off the wedding couple's list so that they could accommodate feeding the photographer. A bar meal is more than adequate - however many venues are more than happy to provide a meal for the photographer that is not included in your costs: you just need to ask!
